Philosophy for Children is a SAPERE accredited two day course which looks at accelerating attainment as well as raising confidence and improving behaviour.P4C is an active learning technique which gives children an opportunity to discuss big ideas in a safe and structured way.
In a 2015 EEF efficacy trial, KS2 pupils who regularly did P4C made two additional months’ progress in reading and maths. And KS2 pupils eligible for free school meals made four months’ additional progress in reading, three in maths plus two in writing.
P4C was also found to have a positive influence on pupils’ confidence to speak, their listening skills, and their self-esteem.
Topsy Page is a qualified teacher, former Assistant Head, Writing Lead and SLE in primary education. She works with schools to develop Philosophy for Children and a culture of high quality dialogue and reasoning across the curriculum. She believes high quality talk is a vital ingredient in narrowing the gap and improving outcomes and is passionate about transforming classrooms by using pupil-to-pupil dialogue.
Topsy delivers fun and active training and provide hands-on classroom coaching. She is an accredited P4C (Philosophy for Children) trainer and in addition to teaching has worked as a lecturer, trainer and facilitator in the UK and internationally.
